Barron L. Weinstein

Biography

Barron (“Barry”) Weinstein exclusively represents policyholders in complex insurance coverage disputes.

Barry began his practice in the field of insurance coverage in 1978 at a San Francisco-based law firm. In 1982, Barry began Weinstein & Buffington, where he continued his commercial litigation practice with an emphasis on insurance coverage.

Following this, Barry joined the office of the San Francisco City Attorney where he served as Chief of Complex Litigation, supervising a team of 15 trial attorneys in complex litigation matters. At the City Attorney’s Office, Barry personally tried and argued on appeal cases in both state and federal courts. Barry also advised city departments and commissions on a wide range of legal matters involving potential and pending litigation, including matters involving insurance coverage disputes.

In 1993, Barry formed another law firm, where he focused his practice exclusively on representing policyholders in complex insurance disputes, including litigation against insurance carriers in state and federal courts.

Throughout his 40-year career, Barry has handled a wide range of cases involving both third-party liability and first-party property insurance coverage disputes. Barry has lectured on insurance coverage issues in numerous Continuing Legal Education courses, including the annual national conference of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (“RIMS”), the City Attorney’s Office for the City and County of San Francisco, the annual conference of the National Diocesan Attorneys Association, the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, the Alameda County Bar Association, and the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada. He serves as a Settlement Officer for the San Francisco Superior Court’s Mandatory Settlement program, and is well respected by carriers, risk managers and mediators for his ability to achieve settlements in complex and contentious matters.
