Blank Rome Welcomes New Patent Agents in Philadelphia and Houston

Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that patent agents Benjamin A. Ailes and Dr. Amir Kyarad have joined the firm’s nationally recognized Intellectual Property & Technology practice group, which recently welcomed partner Hussein Akhavannik, associate Mark F. Mashack, and patent attorney Timothy S. Schwarz. Ben joins Blank Rome’s Philadelphia office and Amir joins the Houston office.

Ben focuses his practice on guiding clients through the patent process for both U.S. and foreign patent applications. Leveraging his background in computer science and patent examination, Ben guides inventors through the application process from identifying potential patentable subject matter to patent issuance. His practice includes patent searching, drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management. Prior to joining Blank Rome, Ben worked as a patent scientist and agent with a Midwest-based law firm and also previously served as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”). Ben is admitted to practice before the USPTO and received his B.S. cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh.

Amir concentrates his practice on counseling clients from the idea of an invention up to the grant of a patent. With a notable focus on representing U.S. and European corporations as clients, Amir has significant experience in all aspects of patent prosecution and is competent in defending a granted patent before the USPTO and the European Patent Office (“EPO”). Previously, Amir worked in Germany for several years at a multinational company that manufactures measurement devices for process automation. Amir fluently speaks German and Persian. Admitted to practice before the USPTO and EPO, Amir received his M.S. from the University of Hamburg and his Ph.D. magna cum laude from the University of Regensburg.
