Blank Rome Associate Stephanie Gantman Kaplan was named a “Lawyer on the Rise” by the Philadelphia Business Journal in April 2017, promoting her as one of 25 millennial-era attorneys recognized as “beginning to make an impact on their industries in Greater Philadelphia.”

They entered the profession at the worst possible time, but these Philadelphia attorneys are already having a major impact. The Philadelphia Business Journal has committed this year to highlighting millennials (those born between 1982 and 2000) who are beginning to make an impact on their industries in Greater Philadelphia. This week, we selected 25 millennials in the local legal industry. They were chosen based on our own institutional knowledge and from recommendations by our network of news sources in the legal community. By no means is this a complete list. But it shows the depth and variety of young lawyers who have made their mark.

Stephanie Gantman Kaplan
A prolific author and lecturer on a wide variety of labor and employment topics, Kaplan was recently part of the team that represented a portfolio company of Gladstone Investment Corp. in its acquisition of the outstanding membership interest of Ambient Air. In addition to pro bono work focused on child advocacy, she also has handled a variety of labor and employment services for local nonprofits, and devoted significant attention to the Anti-Defamation League’s leadership training program and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia Leadership Development Program. At Blank Rome, she serves on the associates committee and is currently mentoring three younger labor and employment associates.
Why did you decide to go to law school?
I have always liked connecting with people and helping them solve their problems. I decided to go to law school so that I could work collaboratively with clients to give advice and counsel, and litigate their interests.
What unique challenges does your generation of lawyers face in the post-recession world?
The greatest challenge facing my generation of lawyers is that law schools are now graduating more attorneys than ever before. I am therefore always striving to be at the top of my game in terms of legal knowledge and skill so that I can succeed in this increasingly crowded profession.
What is your favorite place in Greater Philadelphia and why?
I absolutely love the Philadelphia Zoo. I have fond memories of visiting the zoo as a child, and now enjoy taking my daughter there to see the wonder in her eyes as she takes it all in.
