Blank Rome’s Frederick D. Lipman Authors Book on Whistleblowers

Blank Rome LLP Partner Frederick D. Lipman, an internationally known authority on business law, has recently published “Whistleblowers: Incentives, Disincentives, and Protection Strategies” (John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 2012) as a timely and much-needed resource guiding businesses in managing their whistleblower policies in light of the Dodd-Frank Act provisions.

“Too often, senior management and boards in public and private companies are insulated from information regarding their businesses,” said Mr. Lipman.  “Despite new government incentives for external whistleblowing, many organizations have not adopted robust internal whistleblower policies and changed their culture.  Internal whistleblowers are still treated in some organizations as ‘snitches’  and are subject to subtle and not so subtle forms of retaliation.  This book describes what all organizations must do to change their internal whistleblower culture.”

Whistleblowers critically examines current deterrents to internal whistleblowing, reviews academic studies and high-profile cases of whistleblowers, and offers best practices for working with them.  In addition, Whistleblowers will evaluate the dramatic expansion of whistleblower awards under Dodd-Frank and why organizations must adopt a robust whistleblower system to overhaul their current compliance system.  Whether you are a board member, executive, compliance officer, attorney, or even a potential whistleblower, it is necessary for you to understand these essential business protection strategies.

According to one NYSE audit committee chair: “This unique book weaves the fascinating stories of individual whistleblowers with a call to make major improvements in the corporate compliance systems of all organizations.  It is a must-read for executives and board members concerned about preventing future corporate scandals.”
