Negotiating Rule B Through Novel Ruling

Thomas Belknap has been named in Tradewinds as one of the lawyers negotiating the future of Rule B through ongoing developments.  Recently, New York maritime lawyers have been discussing a novel and somewhat unsettling ruling by Judge Shira Scheindlin in the case Cala Rosa v. Sucres et Denrees Group.  The ruling is seen as an attack on the controversial practice of maritime attachment of electronic funds transfers under Rule B.

Other maritime lawyers named as negotiating the future of Rule B are:  Ray Burke of Burke & Parsons and Peter Gutowski of Freehill, Hogan & Mahar.

“Judge Slams ‘Rule B’ Rodeo” by Bob Rust Stamford appeared in Tradewinds on February 13, 2009.
