Mr. Freeman advises and represents clients in a wide range of industries, including hospitality, entertainment, gaming, retail, real estate and maritime, in civil and commercial litigation matters in federal and state courts and in arbitration proceedings.  He devotes his practice to reducing his clients' litigation risk and rapidly resolving disputes when they arise.

Mr. Freeman concentrates on assisting his clients with issues involving:

  • Representation of a regional hospitality and entertainment venue in breach of contract and business tort litigation arising out of a line-run bus service agreement.
  • Representation of a nationwide operator of premium entertainment venues to provide operational risk management counseling (e.g. liquor law compliance, guest interactions/detentions, crowd control) and to coordinate and enhance relationships with local law enforcement, business and community groups.
  • Representation of an international consulting firm in breach of contract litigation against a former business partner.
  • Representation of a national hospitality company in defense of discrimination and breach of contract claims asserted by a former business partner involved in restaurant operations.
  • Representation of a real estate developer in contract and business tort litigation with its joint venture partner.
  • Representation of the operating tenant of commercial property in litigation with a construction company arising out of the remediation of contaminated soils.
  • Representation of the operator of a commercial passenger vessel in litigation arising out of a collision on the Mississippi River.
  • Representation of an investment firm and its principal in SEC civil enforcement proceedings.
  • Representation of an international industrial auctioneer in litigation arising out of an auction of marine and other industrial equipment.
  • Representation of a national retailer in defense of class-action discrimination claims brought on behalf of customers.
  • Representation of a major metropolitan city and its primary law enforcement agency in connection with a Department of Justice “pattern and practice” investigation into excessive use of force.
  • Representation of a nationally known builder/developer in a breach of construction contract action. All claims were dismissed.
  • Secured a summary judgment as to the liability on behalf of a major engineering and construction company in a private-party litigation arising out of the performance of a government contract.


Mr. Freeman is active in the civic community of Montgomery County, Maryland. Since 2007, he has served as a member of the Charles E. Smith Life Communities ("CESLC") Board of Governors, of which he was appointed chair-elect in 2015 and installed as chair in May 2017. He also served as president of the organization’s Housing Boards, which include Ring House, Revitz House, Landow House, and Cohen-Rosen House, from 2008-2015, and as co-chair of CESLC's annual Guardian Campaign, which raises money to support the services and compassionate care that have made the organization a premier local resource for seniors and their families, from 2013-2015. CESLC is a nonprofit senior living organization that includes independent and assisted living, the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, a post-acute care center, and temporary shelter for victims of elder abuse. Mr. Freeman began his long-standing commitment to CESLC through volunteering at the organization’s Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, a local nonprofit that provides quality rehabilitation and long-term care that respects Jewish values, particularly to those in greatest need.

Additionally, Mr. Freeman was appointed by the County Executive to serve two terms on the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board, which he chaired in 2005, and he serves on several citizen advisory boards convened by the Montgomery County Department of Police.

Mr. Freeman also is active in the Maryland and District of Columbia legal communities, where he is a member of the Maryland Court of Appeals Character Committee.

Mr. Freeman is a leader in Columbia University’s alumni community, where he serves on the Board of Directors of the Columbia College Alumni Association and chairs the Association’s Washington Steering and Alumni Representative Committees.
