James Hall concentrates his practice on intellectual property litigation and related proceedings, with notable experience in copyright, trademark, trade secret, and patent litigation.
Mr. Hall’s primary focus is on patent litigation and associated post-grant practice in the United States Patent Office. He has represented patent owners and accused infringers in federal court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He has substantial experience with every aspect of complex litigation, including discovery, motion practice, Markman hearings, mandamus proceedings, and appeals. He has taken lead briefing roles in many motions and appellate briefs, and participated in multiple discovery, Markman, and injunction hearings. He has also taken or defended over fifty fact and expert depositions, and has assisted many experts in preparing cases for trials in court and the Patent Office.
Mr. Hall has served as lead counsel on multiple matters in both state and federal courts, where he has achieved favorable results for his clients in the courtroom and at the settlement table. He has experience with a wide range of industries, including exploration and production, oilfield service, specialty chemicals, aviation, and computer software and hardware.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hall worked as a process engineer on various petroleum refinery units, including sulfur and tail gas treatment, crude, and FCC units. In these roles, he developed valuable experience in lowering costs and increasing revenue—experience which he still uses for his clients today.
