Steve Roman served 14 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. Mr. Roman’s work focuses on investigations and defense work related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the False Claims Act, as well as business litigation, international arbitration, and white collar defense. He also represents corporate policyholders in insurance coverage litigation.

In addition to his active trial practice, Mr. Roman has conducted a wide range of internal corporate investigations, including inquiries related to business transactions involving foreign officials and alleged violations of government contract requirements, export control regulations, aviation standards, telecommunications rules, and military procurement specifications. He has also counseled or successfully defended individuals subject to law enforcement or agency action, including the head of the lobbying arm of a major financial institution.

Mr. Roman previously worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where, over the course of his career, he tried to verdict more than five dozen cases. During his tenure, Mr. Roman was responsible for the direction and coordination of multiagency federal investigations and the supervision of senior attorneys who prosecuted complex federal cases. As part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, on which he served for two years as the lead prosecutor, Mr. Roman’s responsibilities included participation in long-term federal and task force investigations, which frequently used court-authorized electronic surveillance, and the prosecution and trial of Continuing Criminal Enterprise, RICO, and related offenses.

Before his work as a federal prosecutor, he was an associate at an Am Law 100 firm in California. Mr. Roman’s legal work included the representation of corporate and entertainment clients at trial and appellate levels before local, federal, and bankruptcy courts.


COMMUNITY SERVICE & AFFILIATIONS

Mr. Roman is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is the recipient of six U.S. Attorney’s Office Special Achievement Awards, and he has been a speaker at Department of Justice Office of Legal Education seminars throughout the United States.

Mr. Roman served as a member of the board of directors of the Council for Court Excellence, an organization of judicial, legal, business, and civic leaders, which works to improve the administration of justice in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

He has served as a mentor and tutor at Amidon Elementary School in southwest Washington, D.C.
