A Debate on the Pros and Cons of a Written Versus an Unwritten Constitution

The National Constitution Center
525 Arch St
Philadelphia, PA

Blank Rome partner Anthony B. Haller will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the upcoming joint Temple American Inn of Court (“TAIC”) and Gray’s Inn, London (“Gray’s Inn”) program, “A Conversation on the Pros and Cons of a Written Versus an Unwritten Constitution” being held Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Continuing the tradition of Great Debates which TAIC and Gray’s Inn have developed over the years, this program will compare and contrast the U.S. and UK constitutional systems in their approach to some of the most challenging constitutional and political issues of our day.

“We thank our distinguished guests from Gray’s Inn for making the trip to Philadelphia for this extraordinary event which embodies the principles for which the American Inns of Court movement stands—legal excellence, civility, ethics, professionalism, and mentorship. We gather together in a spirit of collegiality, with the hope of inspiring the legal community to advance the rule of law, to share and exchange ideas on topics of legal and global importance with members of Inns from across the region and with our friends from Gray’s Inn from across the pond,” says Melanie J. Foreman, Esq., President of The Temple American Inn of Court.

Anthony and Paul D. Weiner (Littler Mendelson Shareholder and National eDiscovery Counsel) serve as event co-chairs for the program, which will be moderated by the Rt. Hon. Lady Justice Nicola Davies.

Presenting the United Kingdom’s views are:

  • The Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Peter Coulson
  • Ali Malek KC, Three Verulam Buildings Barristers

Presenting the United States’ views are:

  • The Honorable Barbara M. G. Lynn, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas
  • Robert J. Reinstein, Professor Emeritus at Temple University
